John Hartson: Why Arsenal have put down marker in title race
John Hartson explains why Arsenal have the advantage in the title race after beating Manchester City
John Hartson says Arsenal have put down a marker in the title race after beating the favourites for this season’s Premier League crown.
Arsene Wenger’s side eased to a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud in north London.
The Gunners are two points behind surprise Premier League leaders Leicester City in the title race ahead of the FA Cup holders’s Boxing Day game against Southampton at St Mary’s.
Former Arsenal striker Hartson took to Twitter after the north London outfit’s close-fought win to discuss their prospects of winning the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
Great win for Arsenal tonight, beaten a team that are lots of people's winners for the Premiership! Marker down. #AFC ⚽️

England international Theo Walcott made the breakthrough in the 33rd minute after the striker curled a powerful finish past City number one Joe Hart.
Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud combined yet again as the Arsenal striker doubled the north London side’s lead before half-time before Joel Campbell and Aaron Ramsey missed promising second-half opportunities.
City midfielder Yaya Toure netted what proved to be nothing more than a 81st-minute consolation goal, but the African’s brilliant strike ensured a nervy finish.
