Jose Mourinho: My plans for Chelsea in the January transfer window
Jose Mourinho says he and his Chelsea players must take responsibility for their poor start to the season
Jose Mourinho has told his players that they must take responsibility for Chelsea’s poor start to the season and hinted he will not look to bring in any new player in the January transfer window.
Mourinho watched his side slump to their eighth Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday evening as they were beaten by newly-promoted Bournemouth 1-0 in front of their home fans at Stamford Bridge.
We started the season with this squad, we have to do better
The result left the west London side languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table and just three points above the relegation zone after a disastrous start to their title defence.
Chelsea are likely to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks as the January transfer window approaches.
However, Mourinho has moved to play down the likelihood of the Blues bringing in any new signings next month, preferring to focus on his current group of players.
“I feel we don’t have the right to ask the club for players, I don’t think so,” Mourinho told his post-match news conference at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
“We started the season with this squad, we have to do better, the players have to do better.
“It’s more about that than the club going to the market. People must take responsibility.
“The owner and the board are not responsible for the bad moment, the responsibility is mine and the players.”
