Jose Mourinho delivers injury update on Chelsea’s Eden Hazard
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho delivers the latest update on Eden Hazard after the Belgian suffered an injury at Leicester
Jose Mourinho said Chelsea were waiting to learn the extent of Eden Hazard’s injury after the Belgian playmaker was forced off early on during Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Leicester City.
The PFA player of the year was replaced by Pedro Rodriguez in the 31st minute at the King Power Stadium after appearing to hurt his hip during an awkward fall.
The 24-year-old attempted to play on, before immediately signalling that he could not continue and disappearing down the tunnel.
And the Chelsea boss said that his medical staff were waiting to assess the seriousness of the problem after the game.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho said: “In 10 seconds he made the decision himself [to come off] so it must be a serious injury.
“He made the decision that he was not in conditions to continue so it must be something important.
“His first reaction was: ‘I can’t [continue]’, his second reaction was: ‘I want to try’ and then he goes on the pitch and with the first step he immediately says: ‘I can’t do it’. So it was him, in a few seconds, that had three different perspectives.
“He’s injured, clearly. During the game I have no time to understand what is going on.
“I will have time now to understand where the injury was, but clearly he tried and he felt immediately that [there was] no way.”
Jamie Vardy volleyed home in the 34th minute, before Riyad Mahrez found the top corner for his 11th league goal of the season shortly after half-time.
Chelsea halved the deficit when substitute Loic Remy nodded in from Pedro’s cross in the 77th minute but the Foxes held on to take the three points.
