Piers Morgan is convinced that Jose Mourinho will be in charge of Manchester United before the new year after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Stoke City heaped further pressure on Louis van Gaal.

The Red Devils slumped to their third successive loss in the league at the Britannia Stadium to further compound their misery following their Champions League exit at the hands of Wolfsburg earlier in the month.

Van Gaal had already found himself under intense pressure heading into the Boxing Day clash, and Saturday’s defeat will only serve to further fuel the speculation surrounding his future.

Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea earlier this month, has been touted as a possible candidate to take over at Old Trafford should Van Gaal be given his marching orders in the coming days.

And Arsenal shareholder Morgan is convinced that the Portuguese coach is poised to take over at Old Trafford.

Morgan tweeted on Saturday:
