Jose Mourinho’s agent responds to Man United speculation
Jose Mourinho's agent denies reports that the former Chelsea manager could be set to take charge at Manchester United
Jose Mourinho has not held talks about taking over from Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, the Portuguese coach’s agent has said.
Van Gaal’s position at Old Trafford has been a source of relentless speculation in recent days after United slumped to their second straight Premier League defeat at home by Norwich City on Saturday, a result which followed their Champions League elimination at the group stage.
There isn’t an official proposal, that’s not true
Mourinho has been linked with a number of top clubs since his sacking by Chelsea last week, with United understood to be interested in appointing the former Real Madrid and Porto boss as Van Gaal’s successor.
However, Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has moved to play down talk of a possible move to Old Trafford, insisting that there is not yet any news about his client’s next club.
Mendes told Globo Esporte: “There is nothing.
“We don’t know what will happen in the future, but now there is no agreement. There isn’t an official proposal either, that’s not true.”
Manchester United travel to Stoke City in the Premier League on Boxing Day and there have been claims in the British media that Van Gaal could be sacked if the Red Devils lose to the Potters.
United then host Chelsea at Old Trafford on 28 December.
