Juan Mata issues rallying cry ahead of Manchester United's clash at Wolfsburg
Juan Mata says Manchester United are confident that the Red Devils can book their place in the Champions League knock-out stage on Tuesday.
Louis van Gaal’s need to beat Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg on Tuesday night for the Red Devils to be assured of their place in the last 16.
United played out a goalless draw with PSV Eindhoven in their most-recent Champions League fixture at Old Trafford last month.
The 27-year-old believes Van Gaal’s men can beat Wolfsburg and give the Manchester club a timely boost ahead of a busy December.
“This Tuesday we have a really important game,” Mata wrote on his blog.
“We play in Germany against Wolfsburg and it’s likely that we’ll need to win in order to reach the next stage.
“We all know how tough it is to play against German teams at their stadiums, it’s a big challenge, but we believe that we can get our ticket to the next round of the Champions League there, and also a boost of confidence for this busy month of December.”
Mata has scored five goals and has made four assists in 20 appearances in all competitions this season.
The Red Devils have beaten CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg in the Champions League this season, as well as stalemates with PSV and the Russia side.
