Juan Mata makes promise to Man United supporters
Juan Mata insists that Manchester United are determined to return to winning ways on Saturday
Juan Mata has promised Manchester United’s supporters that the Red Devils are utterly determined to turn their poor recent form around when they take on Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
Louis van Gaal’s side are still coming to terms with the disappointment of their Champions League exit at the hands of Wolfsburg on Tuesday night.
The 3-2 loss in Germany means that United have been parachuted down into the Europa League and will compete in the last 32 stage of Europe’s second tier club competition in the new year.
Mata admits that he and his team-mates are still bitterly disappointed by their European exit, but insisted that they will do everything they can to return to winning ways at Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
“It’s disappointing for us, for the fans and for everyone,” Mata told MUTV. “But we have to move on.
“I played in the Europa League three seasons ago, coming out of the Champions League, and, at the end, we won it [with Chelsea]. So you never know. Obviously, we wanted to carry on in the Champions League but the reality is what it is. We’re in the Europa League and we have three different tournaments to fight for and that’s what we’ll do until the end of the season.
“For myself and for everyone, it’s time to give our best, like always, and try to start getting results. We need to do it as soon as possible, which is away to Bournemouth. It’s going to be tough but we definitely want to go there and arrive at the stadium feeling that it’s going to be a good day.
“We’re focused on coming back to Manchester with three points and carrying on with the good run of results in the Premier League.”
United head into Saturday’s clash in fourth place in the Premier League table but just three points behind surprise leaders Leicester City after 15 games of the new season.
