Klopp gives latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Leicester clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirms James Milner and Martin Skrtel will miss Leicester City clash on Boxing Day

Jurgen Klopp says Martin Skrtel and James Milner are unavailable for Liverpool’s clash against Leicester City on Boxing Day.

The Slovakia international suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of Liverpool’s 3-0 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League last weekend.

We don’t know how long because Martin is a tough guy and usually he recovers quickly

Skrtel revealed on his Instagram page earlier this week that he is set for a six-week spell on the sidelines, which rules the defender out of the festive period.

The Liverpool vice-captain James Milner will also miss the Boxing Day game against Premier League leaders Leicester due to a calf injury which forced the midfielder to miss last weekend’s defeat.

“Martin Skrtel is not too good. It’s a hamstring with a little bit of the tendon involved, so he needs time,” Klopp told his pre-match media conference.

“We don’t know how long because Martin is a tough guy and usually he recovers quickly, but we can’t put pressure on this so we have to wait. It’s a few weeks, for sure – it’s really bad for us.”

Klopp continued: “Martin Skrtel is not too good. It’s a hamstring with a little bit of the tendon involved, so he needs time.

Liverpool number one Simon Mignolet was another noticeable absentee at Vicarage Road as Adam Bogdan struggled on his first start for the Reds in the Premier League.

But Klopp confirmed that the Belgium international has made a successful return to first-team training.

“Simon is back and trained normally today and will train normally tomorrow,” Klopp added.

The 48-year-old former Borussia Dortmund manager added that centre-half Dejan Lovren is available for the Foxes clash after recovering from a nasty gash to his leg which the Croatian suffered in a 2-2 draw with West Brom earlier this week.

Klopp said: “Dejan Lovren is back in training. He’s trained now for two days in a row completely normally with the team. He is available for Saturday.”
