Hiddink delivers latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Palace trip
Guus Hiddink delivers the latest Chelsea injury update, including news on the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill
Guus Hiddink has revealed that Cesc Fabregas is on course to be available for Chelsea’s trip to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Spanish midfielder sat out Monday’s goalless draw at Manchester United due to having a temperature but has been recovering well at the Blues’ Cobham training ground this week.
Hiddink was also asked about the fitness of the likes of Oscar, Willian and Eden Hazard – and confirmed that the trio were recovering well from a physical game at Old Trafford.
However, the interim Chelsea manager revealed that defender Gary Cahill is struggling with an ankle ligament injury and is therefore a doubt for this weekend’s game.
The Dutchman also revealed that strikers Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao are both unlikely to be available for the clash against the Eagles at Selhurst Park.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Wednesday, Hiddink said: “We had two tough games, the physical intensity was high in both games, but in principle we didn’t get big damage.
“Oscar was a bit hurt, Willian got some tackles, Eden too. It was intense but today they were recovering on the pitch which means they are OK.
“Cesc was in this morning. We played a full game with the academy and he played the full game. He is over his temperature problems.
“Falcao I doubt [will be fit for Sunday]. He has the same injury as last week when we tested him. Loic Remy is also doubtful.
“Gary Cahill didn’t go on to the pitch this morning which means he has a little problem but we have several days to go in preparation for Sunday so I’m not negative regarding Cahill. He has an ankle injury. Some ligaments are a little bit tight.”
