Lee Sharpe: New Man United signing looks ‘fed up’

Lee Sharpe runs the rule over Memphis Depay's first few months since arriving at Manchester United

Memphis Depay looks “fed up” at Manchester United and Anthony Martial is heading the same way, according to former Red Devils Lee Sharpe.

The 21-year-old Netherlands international arrived at Old Trafford to much fanfare after joining the Red Devils from PSV Eindhoven in the summer transfer window.

However, the winger has failed to produce consistent performances for Louis van Gaal’s side and has been left out of the starting line-up in recent weeks.

Depay scored United’s opener with a sublime volley as they beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road last month.

However, he has still only netted twice in 10 Premier League outings for his new club, and is yet to notch up any assists for his team-mates.

Former United star Sharpe feels that Depay’s impact has dwindled in recent weeks and says he is not the only player to have disappointed.

Speaking exclusively to 888sport.com ahead of Manchester United’s tie with West Ham on Saturday, Sharpe said: “He came in on fire, full of energy and enthusiasm.

“It seems to have dwindled a bit and I’m not sure if that’s down to the manager because with Martial we witnessed the same.

“There’s been a few players who have done good little bits but then been left out of the team.

“They have to start passing sideways and backwards rather than taking risks.

“He does look a bit fed up but then again a few others are as well.”
