Liam Brady: Where Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud ranks in Europe
Liam Brady believes Arsenal star Olivier Giroud is just below top tier of European strikers
Liam Brady says Arsenal’s hat-trick hero Olivier Giroud is just below the top tier of European strikers.
The France international scored a brilliant hat-trick in Arsenal’s vital 3-0 victory over Olympiacos in their must-win Champions League group-stage game on Wednesday night.
The 29-year-old forward has been in outstanding form for the north London side in recent months after a return of 10 goals in his last 12 games in all competitions.
Former Arsenal forward Brady, who scored 43 times in 243 top-flight games for the Gunners, heaped praise on Giroud after his treble against Greek side Olympiacos.
Brady told RTE Sport: “He isn’t able to burst beyond people but he has shown that when the chances come along he can put them away.
“He isn’t in the category of the best strikers in Europe but he is just below that.”
Giroud has scored 15 times for club and country in 28 games in all competitions this season.
The France striker has won back his spot in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up in recent months after falling behind Theo Walcott in the pecking order.
The 29-year-old moved to Arsenal from Ligue 1 side Montpellier in 2012. The Gunners take on Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
