Liverpool legend: Man United million miles away from success
Graeme Souness says he can understand why Man United supporters are unhappy with Louis van Gaal
Graeme Souness says Manchester United are a million miles away from success under Louis van Gaal.
The Red Devils were condemned to the Europa League after the visitors squandered a first-half lead after Anthony Martial had made the breakthrough in the 10th minute at Wolfsburg.
However, the hosts hit back and were level through Naldo and Vieirinha put the home side in front before the Wolfsburg striker sealed victory in the 84th minute despite a late own goal giving United late hope.
And former Liverpool captain Souness can understand why United supporters are so unhappy with Van Gaal and his under-performing Red Devils squad following their Champions League exit.
“They’re a million miles away. It must be so upsetting for United supporters,” Souness told TV3.
“You should get a better return for £300m than United supporters are getting in terms of players and better football.”
United played out a goalless draw with West Ham United at Old Trafford in the Premier League last Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils are in fourth place and three points behind surprise Premier League leaders Leicester City.
Van Gaal’s men make the trip to Dean’s Court to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
