Liverpool legend: This new signing has transformed Arsenal
Phil Thompson has been very impressed by Petr Cech's impact since arriving at Arsenal from Chelsea
Phil Thompson has credited Petr Cech with playing a key role in helping Arsenal build the foundations for a genuine Premier League title challenge this season.
The goalkeeper has been a regular fixture between the posts for Arsene Wenger’s men so far this season to help them to within two points of leaders Leciester City after last weekend’s win over Aston Villa.
Cech has kept seven clean sheets for Arsenal so far this season following his arrival from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The Czech Republic international has kept 169 clean sheets for both Chelsea and Arsenal since arriving in England during the summer of 2004.
And former Liverpool star Thompson has talked up the impact the veteran shot-stopper has had since arriving at Emirates Stadium.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon, Thompson said: “The goalkeeper’s been massive. He can organise, talk to people – there is a confidence from him.
“He never looked in any trouble, even when Aston Villa tried to step up a gear.
“It was after the Champions League game – how were they going to react? But they managed the game. I thought that was the biggest thing to come out of that game.”
Arsenal take on Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on Monday night in a crunch title clash.
