Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is happy to do his talking on the pitch
Daniel Sturridge has sent a message to his critics on Instagram after the Liverpool striker scored twice on his return to the Reds side in a 6-1 win at Southampton.
The England international has been under scrutiny over the past week after Sturridge missed Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Bordeaux due to a foot injury after being sidelined since early October with a knee problem.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp suggested that the 26-year-old needed to learn the difference between “real pain and pain” before Sunday’s 1-0 win against Swansea, although the German has since played down his assessment.
But Sturridge did his talking on the pitch as the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker scored twice in the space of four first-half minutes to overturn Sadio Mane’s opener in the League Cup quarter-final.
Liverpool eased to a stylish 6-1 win thanks to Divock Origi’s hat-trick and Jordon Ibe’s second-half goal, and Sturridge took to Instagram to react to their League Cup heroics.
Sturridge has scored two goals in four Premier League games this season.
