Liverpool suffer transfer blow after Xabi Alonso signs Bayern deal
Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso signs a contract extension with the Bundesliga side on Friday
Liverpool have been dealt a transfer blow after Xabi Alonso signed a new one-year contract extension at Bayern Munich on Friday.
The former Reds playmaker has ended speculation surrounding his future ahead of the January transfer window after putting pen to paper on a deal which will see Alonso stay at Allianz Arena until 2017.
The Spanish midfielder has regularly been linked with a sensational move back to Anfield in recent months after leaving the Merseyside outfit to join Real Madrid back in the summer of 2009.
However, Alonso, who joined Bayern from Los Blancos in 2014, is happy to remain part of Pep Guardiola’s squad, extending his stay for another 12 months.

Alonso scored 19 goals in more than 200 appearances for the Reds during his spell in the Premier League between 2004 and 2009 and helped Liverpool secure Champions League glory in 2005.
The Spanish midfielder moved to Liverpool from Real Sociedad in a £10.5m deal in 2004.
