Guillermo Varela takes to Instagram following his first Manchester United appearance
Guillermo Varela has taken to Instagram to reflect on his Manchester United debut in Saturday’s goalless draw with West Ham United.
The Uruguayan youngster made his debut as a second-half substitute in United’s disappointing stalemate at Old Trafford after he replaced Northern Ireland international Paddy McNair.
The 22-year-old moved to the Red Devils from Penarol in June 2013 after the South American full-back spent a season-long loan at Real Madrid’s Castilla team.
Van Gaal is already contending with a lengthy injury list and McNair will join fellow defenders Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones on the sidelines.
And Varela, who could be in contention to face Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night, was thrilled to get an opportunity to represent United.
Varela wrote on his Instagram page: “Thank you God for this new opportunity in my career!👌”
United have dropped to fourth place in the Premier League table following Saturday’s stalemate.
