Man United transfers: Louis van Gaal urged to sign Charlie Austin
Gordon Hill urges Manchester United to sign QPR striker Charlie Austin in January transfer window
Manchester United should target Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin in the January transfer window, according to Gordon Hill.
The Red Devils are currently relying on Anthony Martial as their only out-and-out striker after United captain Wayne Rooney’s recent spell on the sidelines with an injury.
Manager Louis van Gaal opted to sell Mexico international Javier Hernandez in a £9m deal to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, while England Under-21 striker James Wilson joined Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion on loan.
And former United midfielder Hill believes Van Gaal should look to sign in-form QPR striker Austin after the ex-Burnley man netted twice in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Brighton at Loftus Road.
“Cannont understand why Austin is still playing in the Championship. The same mould as Vardy. Take a chance United,” Hill wrote on Twitter.
Uncapped England striker Austin has scored 10 of QPR’s 26 Championship goals this season.
The 26-year-old former Burnley man netted 18 times in 26 Premier League games for the west London side last season.
