Man United urged to sack Louis van Gaal and appoint Ryan Giggs
Danny Murphy says Manchester United should seriously consider replacing Louis van Gaal with Ryan Giggs
Danny Murphy has told Manchester United to consider sacking Louis van Gaal and appointing Ryan Giggs as manager on a full-time basis.
Van Gaal has found himself under increasing pressure in the wake of United’s shock 2-1 loss to Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
That result left the Red Devils in fifth place in the table and nine points behind surprise leaders Leicester heading into the hectic festive period.
United have lost their last three games in all competitions and were dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage earlier this month.
And former Liverpool midfielder Murphy feels that Giggs would be the suitable candidate to take over from Van Gaal at United should they opt to part company with the Dutchman.
Murphy is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “I think United need a change.
“I am not one of these people that think you should sack managers every time you have a bad run but I can see the players’ body language and I can sense the players aren’t [behind him].
“I would give it to Giggs, at least until the end of the season to see how it goes.
“He looks like he wants it, he is passionate and he knows how United fans want them to play.”
United travel to Stoke City on Boxing Day, before hosting defending champions Chelsea at Old Trafford two days later.
