Man United warned not to compare Anthony Martial to Arsenal legend
Christian Damiano plays down comparisons between Manchester United new-boy Anthony Martial and Thierry Henry
Former Liverpool first-team coach Christian Damiano has warned Manchester United that it is far too early to compare Anthony Martial to Thierry Henry.
The 19-year-old striker has earned rave reviews since arriving at Old Trafford from Monaco in a big-money transfer deal during the summer window.
Martial announced himself to the United faithful with a stunning goal in the 3-1 win over Liverpool earlier this season after coming off the bench, and has since been a regular fixture in Louis van Gaal’s first team.
The teenager has earned comparisons to the likes of former Arsenal forward Henry following his switch to the Premier League.
But Damiano feels that such talk is premature.
Damiano is quoted as saying by France Football: “Martial came through very slowly into the Lyon and Monaco first teams.
“Let us say he has not gone through the same stages in his career and does not have the same experiences or the fundamentals, that served Henry for many years, yet.”
Martial will be expecting to feature when United return to Premier League action with a home clash against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The forward has not found the net since the 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow last month.
