Man United’s Louis van Gaal reacts to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea sacking
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal runs the rule over Chelsea's decision to sack Jose Mourinho
Louis van Gaal says Chelsea’s decision to sack Jose Mourinho was a “big surprise”.
The Blues parted company with the outspoken 52-year-old manager just seven months after Mourinho led Chelsea to the cup double after winning the Premier League and League Cup crowns.
I cannot say what was happening in Chelsea, but I was very surprised

The defending champions are a point above the relegation zone after a 2-1 loss to surprise leaders Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Monday night.
Mourinho has won top-flight titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, whilst the Portuguese coach led Porto and Inter Milan to Champions League crowns in 2004 and 2010.
And United manager Van Gaal, whose position at Old Trafford has been questioned in recent weeks following a five-game winless run, says Mourinho has no peers in terms of his managerial record over the past decade or so.
“It was a big surprise for me, something that I did not expect,” Van Gaal told his pre-match media conference.
“He is a fantastic manager with a record that nobody has in this football world, but it is still posssible.
“The main thing is, first, the results and secondly the chemistry between the players, the manager and his staff. I cannot say what was happening in Chelsea, but I was very surprised.”
Van Gaal’s United side suffered a 2-1 loss to promoted side Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium in the Premier League last weekend.
