Mesut Ozil issues Arsenal rallying cry ahead of Olympiacos showdown
Mesut Ozil insists that Arsenal are capable of beating Olympiacos to reach the Champions League last 16
Mesut Ozil insists that Arsenal have what it takes to beat Olympiacos and reach the knockout phase of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Gunners head to Greece knowing that they must win the game by a two-goal margin to guarantee their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
Ozil has been in fine form for Arsenal in recent weeks and notched up his 12th Premier League assist of the season during Saturday’s 3-1 win over Sunderland at Emirates Stadium.
The Germany international insists that he is aware of the significant task that awaits Arsene Wenger’s men in Athens, but says he is confident that Arsenal have what it takes to progress.
Ozil, 27, is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “We can do it. It will be very hard. Olympiakos can play good football and we saw that at The Emirates.
“We can go there and win by two goals if we give everything, but we can’t concede goals like we did before.
“We have to be good in defence. If they score a goal then we have to score three goals, but we know that we can score.
“We know we have a lot of quality up front, but our goal is to go into half-time ahead and then we will know that everything is possible.”
Saturday’s win over the Black Cats in north London hoisted the Gunners up to second place in the Premier League after both Manchester clubs dropped points.
