Michael Owen reacts angrily to Mesut Ozil assist in Arsenal v Man City
It seems that Michael Owen was not that impressed by Mesut Ozil's performance in Arsenal's win over Manchester City...
Michael Owen branded the statistics as “bollocks” after Mesut Ozil was credited with an assist for Theo Walcott’s opener in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Manchester City on Monday night.
The England international fired Arsene Wenger’s men into the lead at Emirates Stadium with a superb right-footed shot after receiving the ball from Ozil moments earlier.
Ozil was credited with the assist for the goal, before the Germany playmaker went on to set up Olivier Giroud, who made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.
The World Cup winner now has 15 assists in the Premier League to his name so far this season.
However, it seems that former England international Owen has not been that impressed by Ozil’s form.
Owen wrote on Sportlobster after Walcott’s opener: “That’s where stats are bollocks. Ozil assist? Koscielny had the biggest influence on that goal.”
Monday’s win moved Arsenal back to within two points of leaders Leicester City and four above Manchester City in the Premier League table.
The Gunners travel to Southampton on Boxing Day.
