Michael Owen states his prediction for Stoke v Man United
Michael Owen is backing Stoke City to turn up the heat on Louis van Gaal by beating Manchester United on Saturday
Michael Owen is expecting Stoke City to crank up the heat on Louis van Gaal by beating Manchester United in their Premier League clash on Boxing Day.
The Dutchman has been under intense pressure in recent days after watching his side slump to back to back Premier League defeats.
It looks only a matter of when and not if Louis van Gaal leaves the club
United were dumped out of the Champions League at the hands of Wolfsburg and were then beaten by Bournemouth, before last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Norwich City at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal’s future has been a source of relentless speculation in recent days, with some reports claiming that sacked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could take over at Old Trafford should the Dutchman be given his marching orders.
Owen feels that Van Gaal’s days are numbered and believes that Mourinho would be a good candidate to take over at Old Trafford.
And the former Liverpool striker reckons Stoke City could put the final nail in Van Gaal’s coffin with victory over the Red Devils at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.
Owen wrote in his blog for Bet Victor: “Another very disappointing result for United at home to Norwich at the weekend and it looks only a matter of when and not if Louis van Gaal leaves the club.
“I think Jose Mourinho would be a great fit, but then again I always felt Ryan Giggs would take over from the Dutchman. It is not so much the results but the style of football on offer; it is not the Manchester United way.
“I don’t expect Stoke to lose and they could easily nick it.”
United dropped out of the top four after last weekend’s loss to Norwich.
