Michael Owen states his prediction for Olympiacos v Arsenal
Michael Owen is tipping Olivier Giroud to help fire Arsenal to victory over Olympiacos on Wednesday
Michael Owen is tipping Olivier Giroud to score for Arsenal during their crunch Champions League clash with Olympiacos on Wednesday night.
The Gunners head into the game after having returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Arsene Wenger’s men need to beat the Greek side by any scoreline other than 1-0 or 2-1 to guarantee their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
And former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen is expecting a tense affair as Arsenal look to avoid being parachuted down into the Europa League.
Owen wrote in his column for Bet Victor: “Arsenal will qualify for the knock out stages with any win in Greece other than by 1-0 or 2-1 but the Gunners have lost all three previous Champions League away games against Olympiacos all of which have been on Matchday six.
“Alexis Sanchez would be a huge loss for Arsenal if he misses the game, but they are sure to give it a good go and the Greeks won’t know whether to attack or try and sit on their advantage.
“Olivier Giroud found the back of both nets against Sunderland on Saturday; let’s hope he’s on target just at the right end midweek.”
Saturday’s win over Sunderland left Arsenal in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Leicester City as the hectic festive schedule looms large.
The Gunners’ next top-flight game is a trip to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
