Nacho Monreal reveals key to settling in at Arsenal
Nacho Monreal thanks his team-mates for helping him settle into life at Arsenal following his move from Malaga
Nacho Monreal has paid tribute to Hector Bellerin, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta for helping him adapt to life at Arsenal following his transfer from Malaga in January 2013.
The Spaniard has been a consistent performer in Arsene Wenger’s first team in recent months and has earned plenty of praise since his move to the north London club almost two years ago.
The defender has been a regular fixture in the Gunners side this season after initially making a slow start to life at The Emirates.
He has started all 14 of Arsenal’s Premier League games and has also featured three times in the Champions League for Wenger’s side.
And the 29-year-old has revealed how Arsenal’s Spanish players helped to make him quickly feel at home in north London following his move.
“Everything feels right,” Monreal told the Arsenal Weekly podcast. “I can say that I feel at home on and off the pitch.
“If you don’t feel good off the pitch and in life in general, obviously you can’t give 100 per cent. However, at the moment, I love England, I love London and I love my team-mates so everything is positive.
“When I arrived here I knew that the first thing I had to do was learn English because, if you want to speak to your team-mates, the staff and anyone here, you need to learn the language. It was difficult for me because I’m very bad with different languages but I am trying.
“Mikel, Santi and Hector were very helpful for me because I didn’t speak English when I arrived, I didn’t understand anything, so every time I had a problem or didn’t understand something they explained it to me.
“Even in the evenings, sometimes you have nothing to do and you can spend your time with them. They helped me a lot.”
The defender will be expecting to feature when Arsenal return to action with a home clash against Sunderland on Saturday.
