Neil Mellor has warned Liverpool that they must be clinical against Leicester City if the Reds want to beat the Premier League leaders.

The Merseyside outfit have dropped to ninth place in the Premier League table following a 3-0 defeat by promoted side Watford at Vicarage Road last weekend.

I firmly believe we will get chances against them. We’ve just got to be clinical now and take them

Liverpool are winless in three Premier League games ahead of their Boxing Day clash against Claudio Ranieri’s high-flying Foxes side.

However, former Reds striker Mellor believes Liverpool will get chances against Leicester but must be more clinical than in recent games.

Mellor told Liverpool Echo: “Leicester’s story is of course a great one and refreshing to see in modern day football.

“They are competing for the title right now with real togetherness. And they are a good team with good players – like Mahrez who has been one of the top stars in the league this season. And as well as Vardy too, there is Kante in midfield who has been winning so many plaudits.

“They are back on Merseyside for the second time in a week after defeating Everton, so will be full of confidence of course.

“But I firmly believe we will get chances against them. We’ve just got to be clinical now and take them.”

The Reds are in ninth place and five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur after last weekend’s 3-0 defeat by Watford.

Liverpool have only won three of nine Premier League games since Jurgen Klopp took over the reins at Anfield from Brendan Rodgers.
