Paul Ince: Louis van Gaal must give this Man United star a chance
Paul Ince runs the rule over out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini
Louis van Gaal has to give Marouane Fellaini a chance to shine in the Manchester United first team, says Paul Ince.
The Belgium international lined out for United’s Under-21 side on Monday night as he scored in a 3-2 win against Liverpool.
Fellaini has found his first-team opportunities limited in recent months, starting just one game in the Premier League game.
Similarly, the 28-year-old midfielder hasn’t started in the Champions League this season, either, making four substitute appearances.
However, former United captain Ince believes Fellaini merits a run in Van Gaal’s side as opposed to being a last-ditch substitute.
“For a player of that ability to come on for the last ten minutes in every game more or less just for long balls…I think he’s better than that and he deserves a chance,” Ince told 888poker.com.
“It’s also a sad indictment of United not creating enough chances when they have to throw him on and put balls into the box.”
Fellaini has scored six times in 47 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils during a three-season stay at Old Trafford.
The towering Belgium midfielder moved to the Red Devils in a £27m deal from Everton in 2013 under David Moyes.
Van Gaal’s side face West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
