Paul Merson makes bold prediction about next Man United manager
Paul Merson makes a bold prediction about who could be the next Manchester United boss
Paul Merson believes that Ryan Giggs would be the perfect successor for Louis van Gaal should the Dutchman be sacked by Manchester United due to their poor run of form.
The pressure has increased on Van Gaal in recent weeks following the club’s Champions League exit and an inconsistent run in the Premier League.
Van Gaal watched his side slump to a 2-1 defeat by Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon as the Red Devils dropped out of the top four in the table.
And former Arsenal star Merson feels that Giggs would be the perfect man to take over from Van Gaal should be relieved of his duties in the coming months.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday, Merson said: “Look at Ryan Giggs. I think he’s perfect for United. He’s been there, knows the club and the players and is already popular with the fans.”
“He’s been part of the coaching set-up as well. He just fits. But are we talking about him as United’s next manager?
“If Louis van Gaal gets sacked it’s because he hasn’t got United into the top four. Well, their next manager will have to hit the ground running if he wants to do better.
“They can’t afford to bring in someone who doesn’t know the Premier League and needs six months to get used to it.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Boxing Day with a trip to Stoke City, before they host Chelsea at Old Trafford two days later.
