Paul Merson makes bold prediction about Tottenham’s season

Paul Merson is convinced that Tottenham Hotspur have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The Lilywhites have been in impressive form in the top flight in recent months since their defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men played out a goalless draw with Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon to leave them in fifth place in the table and four points behind joint leaders Manchester City and Leicester City.

And former Arsenal star Merson feels that the north London side are capable of challenging for the title this season as the hectic festive period looms large.

Merson told Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday: “I think they’re in it [the title race]. I think they’re as good as anybody at the moment.

“They lost to [Manchester] United on the first day of the season, and believe me if they played them now and had that much possession, they would never have lost.

“I just think then they weren’t believers. I think they are starting to believe in themselves a lot more. It’s a good young team.”

Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to West Bromwich Albion. Spurs have won six and drawn four of their last 10 Premier League games.
