Paul Merson reveals his prediction for Leicester v Chelsea
Paul Merson is backing Leicester to hold Chelsea to a draw on Monday night
Paul Merson is expecting Leicester to hold Chelsea to a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Blues take on the surprise leaders as they look to return to winning ways after Jose Mourinho’s men slumped to a disappointing 1-0 loss to newly-promoted Bournemouth in west London last weekend.
Chelsea returned to winning ways on Wednesday night as they beat Porto 2-0 to reach the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners.
And although the former Arsenal star admits that Monday’s game is a “must-win” for Chelsea, Merson feels that Leicester are likely to get a point from the clash.
Merson told Sky Sports: “This is must-win for Chelsea. There are 14 points between them and the top four, but I think they need to be judged on how many points they are off Leicester.
“They’re 18 off Leicester, but for me the Foxes are not going to be winning the league come May. If they come anywhere in the top four, it will be fourth place. So for Chelsea, Leicester are the side they need to chase down.
“We say every week Chelsea will win this game, win seven on the trot and be fine, but they did not look like winning against Bournemouth. They kept the ball forever and did not look like scoring.
“This is a really, really hard game to judge. Chelsea haven’t really ripped anyone to shreds this season, although they did play well against Porto. I’ll go 2-2.”
Chelsea head into the game in 14th place in the Premier League table after their surprise loss to Bournemouth last weekend.
The Blues will find out their opponents in the last 16 of the Champions League when the draw takes place on Monday.
