Paul Merson states his prediction for Watford v Liverpool
Paul Merson is predicting a 1-1 draw between Watford and Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon
Paul Merson is tipping Watford to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are looking to bounce back to winning ways following the disappointment of their 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion in front of their home fans at Anfield last weekend.
The German coach is bidding to guide the Reds into the top four this season, with his side currently in ninth place in the table and five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United as the hectic festive period looms large.
However, former Arsenal star Merson is tipping Watford to put up a fight on Sunday and hold the Reds to a draw at Vicarage Road.
Merson told Sky Sports: “This will be a good game, but which Liverpool will show up? It’s when they play against teams like Watford and West Brom, who are going to keep it tight, that’s when they struggle.
“When they play against the bigger boys the game is allowed to open up a bit and that is where Jurgen Klopp’s side are stronger, when the onus isn’t necessarily on them.
“I don’t think they’ve got enough of that killer, eye of a needle ball-player. Watford have been great – they’re very hard to beat, and I’ll go with a 1-1 draw, which is a huge compliment to Watford, with Odion Ighalo scoring. I’d be so shocked if he stays there beyond January, surely someone will sign him.”
Liverpool, who have beaten the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City under Klopp, face games against Leicester City, Sunderland and West Ham in the coming weeks as they look to reignite their push for a top-four finish.
