Paul Merson states his prediction for Arsenal v Newcastle
Paul Merson is expecting an easy Arsenal victory against Newcastle on Saturday...
Paul Merson is fully expecting Arsenal to ease to a 3-0 victory over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Gunners look to keep their title bid on track.
Arsene Wenger’s men head into the game top of the Premier League table on goal difference from Leicester City after the Foxes’ goalless draw with Manchester City in midweek.
Arsenal wrapped up a 2-0 win over Bournemouth at The Emirates as they returned to winning ways following their Boxing Day humiliation at Southampton.
And former Gunners Merson believes that the north London side are set to coast to victory over the Magpies in front of their home fans this weekend.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I can’t see anything but an easy Arsenal win here. It was a bad result for Newcastle at West Brom, although I did feel for goalkeeper Karl Darlow as he had done well up to the goal.
“It was so important Arsenal got back to winning ways after the defeat by Southampton. That’s what champions would do, and they came through thanks to more magic from Mesut Ozil.
“I think it will be a walk in the park for the Gunners, and Newcastle will probably look at this as damage limitations, making sure they do not get a good beating.”
Arsenal, who have won the FA Cup for the last two seasons, are set to face Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League in the new year.
