Paul Merson states his prediction for Arsenal v Sunderland
Paul Merson is expecting Arsenal to coast to victory against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon at The Emirates
Paul Merson is tipping Arsenal to return to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday by securing a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Norwich City at Carrow Road last weekend as they squandered the chance to move up the Premier League table.
The disappointing result was made worse for the Gunners following injuries to Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla.
However, former Arsenal man Merson feels that the visit of the Black Cats represents the perfect opportunity for Arsene Wenger’s men to get back on track in the Premier League as the hectic festive schedule looms large.
Merson told Sky Sports: “It’s a nice game for Arsenal this weekend.
“They are struggling without Francis Coquelin playing the holding role and they have just lost Alexis Sanchez to injury but I think they will pick up a comfortable 2-0 win.
“The loss of Sanchez is a big blow to Arsene Wenger but with this game in mind they should still have too much for Sunderland.
“Sam Allardyce’s side have had a couple of excellent results and a have a free swing at Arsenal at the Emirates but I just think the Gunners have enough quality to pick up a much needed three points.”
Arsenal head into Saturday’s game in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind joint leaders Manchester City and Leicester City.
The Gunners have taken just two points from a possible nine in their last three top-flight outings.
