Paul Merson states his prediction for Man United v Norwich
Paul Merson is tipping Manchester United to beat Norwich City 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson is backing Manchester United to bounce back to winning ways when they host Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils are looking to respond after their disappointing 2-1 defeat by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend.
That loss compounded United’s misery after they were dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage by Wolfsburg just days earlier.
United will be aiming to kick the festive period off with a victory – and former Arsenal star Merson reckons that the Red Devils will have too much for the Canaries at Old Trafford.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I’m going to go for United, but it won’t be impressive. I’m Louis van Gaal’s biggest critic, but he’s had some bad injuries.
“It might not be pretty, but it will be a big win for them. It’s a catch 22 with Norwich, it’s one of those games where you ask yourself “do we have a go at United?” as they may never have a better chance.
“If they sit back they could play into United’s hands, but if they have a go it could catch them off guard unexpectedly.”

United, who have been parachuted down into the Europa League following their Champions League exit, head into the game in fourth place in the Premier League table and six points behind surprise leaders Leicester City after 16 games.
Louis van Gaal led the Red Devils to a top-four finish in his first season in charge at Old Trafford.
