Petr Cech: This positive sign underlines Arsenal’s title potential
Petr Cech heaps praise on the Arsenal squad after 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Monday night
Petr Cech believes there are positives signs that Arsenal can win the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners eased to a 2-1 victory over title rivals Manchester City at The Emirates on Monday night thanks to goals from Arsenal strikers Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
Arsene Wenger has been contending with an injury crisis at the north London club for much of the season, and his list of casualties includes first-team players such as Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla.
However, Arsenal number one Cech, who won four Premier League titles during a 11-year stay at Stamford Bridge, heaped praise on the Gunners squad for staying involved in the title race despite their mounting injury problems.
“You need every member of your squad to be on top of their game,” Cech told Arsenal’s Facebook page.
“During the season, we haven’t been able to avoid injuries.
“In the circumstances, we needed every member of the squad in every game.
“The lads are doing a great job.
“It is a great sign when you have everyone contributing because you need to win games.”
Arsenal are two points adrift of surprise leaders Leicester City ahead of their next Premier League game against Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday night.
Wenger’s Arsenal side haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004.
