Petr Cech: This is my best Arsenal game so far
Petr Cech discusses his best performance for Arsenal since moving to The Emirates in the summer
Petr Cech has quickly become a vital part of Arsenal’s side since a nightmare debut against West Ham United.
The Czech Republic made two mistakes in a 2-0 defeat by the Hammers in his first game for the north London side after a £9m switch to Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
I needed to make sure I was on top of my game – and it happened
However, the 33-year-old, who won four Premier League titles during his Blues career, has produced a string of imperious performances for Wenger’s side since his Hammers setback.
Cech made a brilliant save to deny Thomas Muller in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, whilst the Czech shot stopper has kept 10 clean sheets in all competitions.
But the Arsenal signing named his display in a goalless draw with Liverpool a week after the north London side’s loss to West Ham as his best game for the Gunners.
“I would probably pick the Liverpool game or maybe the Bayern game at home,” Cech told Arsenal’s Facebook page.
“Let’s go with the Liverpool game. It was the second home game and the first home game was a disaster.
“There was a lot of people expecting me to play in a different way than I played in my first game for the club.
“To put in a performance like that in the circumstances and under pressure, I needed to make sure I was on top of my game – and it happened.”
Arsenal are two points behind leaders Leicester City after a 2-1 victory over title rivals Manchester City on Monday night.
