Bastian Schweinsteiger says he is excited to face defending champions Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday afternoon.

Manchester United will look to end a three-game losing run in the Premier League after successive defeats by Bournemouth, Norwich City and Stoke City over the past couple of weeks.

Louis van Gaal is facing increased speculation surrounding his long-term future at Old Trafford after United extended their winless run to five Premier League games.

Schweinsteiger didn’t feature in United’s 2-0 defeat by Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Boxing Day as Van Gaal selected Michael Carrick and Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield.

However, the World Cup winner, who moved to United in the summer transfer window, is harbouring ambitions of facing the reigning Premier League champions at Old Trafford in Monday’s game.

Schweinsteiger wrote on his Instagram page: “Excited about tomorrow’s big match against Chelsea! #mufc”

The Germany midfielder has scored one goal in 15 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils so far this season.
