Philippe Coutinho congratulates his Liverpool team-mates on an impressive 6-1 win at Southampton
Philippe Coutinho hailed Liverpool’s amazing League Cup performance after a 6-1 win at Southampton on Wednesday night.
Daniel Sturridge scored his first goal since September as he cancelled out Sadio Mane’s opener before the injury-prone striker edged Liverpool into a 2-1 lead four minutes later.
Divock Origi added Liverpool’s third goal of the first half before the Belgium international completed his hat-trick after half-time.
Substitute Jordon Ibe netted Liverpool’s sixth to secure their place in the semi-final, with the Reds set to make the trip to Stoke City in the first leg in January.
Coutinho was left out of Klopp’s match-day squad for the trip to St Mary’s after his recent hamstring troubles, but the Brazil international kept close tabs on the Reds at Southampton.
The South American playmaker is expected to make his return from a hamstring injury at Newcastle United at St James’s Park on Sunday afternoon.
Coutinho has scored five goals and has made three assists in 12 Premier League games this term.
