Simon Mignolet expresses his delight that Liverpool finished top of Europa League Group B
Simon Mignolet has expressed his delight after Liverpool finished top of Europa League Group B following a goalless draw with Sion.
The Reds struggled to create any clear-cut chances in Switzerland in their final group-stage games, although Divock Origi had a late chance but couldn’t guide his finish goalwards from close range.
Mignolet also made a save to deny Sion’s Ebenezer Assifuah in a game of few chances, as Liverpool maintained their unbeaten record in this season’s competition.
The 28-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, who moved to Liverpool from Sunderland in a £9m deal in 2014, took to Instagram to post a message following their close-fought win.
Mignolet wrote on her Instagram page: “Job well done, group winners ! #together #cleansheet #YNWA #SIOLIV #UEL”
Liverpool managed to keep their first clean sheet against Swiss opposition since April 1977 following their goalless stalemate.
