Photos: Liverpool’s forgotten defender all smiles ahead of Sunderland clash

Jose Enrique trains with his Liverpool team-mates ahead of their trip to Sunderland on Wednesday night

Jose Enrique could be in line for a rare appearance for Liverpool ahead of their trip to Sunderland on Wednesday night.

The Reds defender hasn’t played much football over the past 18 months and Enrique hasn’t made an appearance under new manager Jurgen Klopp.

Enrique, 29, has been managing a long-term knee problem over the past 18 months or so which has limited the former Newcastle United full-back to just nine appearances since 31 August 2014.

The Liverpool defender has been unusually quiet on social media after Enrique opted to delete his Instagram and Twitter accounts earlier this year, too.

Enrique is facing an uphill battle to win back his left-back spot given the excellent form of fellow Spanish defender, Alberto Moreno.

But the former Magpies defender looked in high spirits during Monday afternoon’s training session ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle’s derby rivals Sunderland on Wednesday night.
