Piers Morgan wants to see Arsene Wenger embark on a £200m spending spree for Arsenal in January

Piers Morgan has pleaded with Arsene Wenger to splash the cash on strengthening his Arsenal squad during the January transfer window.

The Gunners have been touted by many to be one of the leading contenders for this season’s Premier League title.

Arsenal have inevitably been linked with a host of January signings as the winter transfer window approaches.

The north London side have been reported to be close to completing the signing of Mohamed Elneny from Basel in a deal thought to be worth £5.5m.

However, celebrity fan and Arsenal shareholder Morgan is less than impressed with Wenger’s reported transfer plans to date – and wants to see the north London side make bids for the likes of Paul Pogba and Robert Lewandowski.

In a series of tweets on Monday afternoon, Morgan wrote:
