Arsenal underlined their status as genuine Premier League title contenders as they held to beat Manchester City 2-1 in Monday night’s clash at Emirates Stadium.

Theo Walcott gave Arsene Wenger’s men the lead in the 33rd minute in north London with a superb low shot into the bottom corner.

Olivier Giroud doubled the Gunners’ advantage on the stroke of half-time when he slotted his finish between Joe Hart’s legs.

Yaya Toure pulled one back for the visitors with eight minutes left with a brilliant first-time shot into the top corner to set up a tense finale.

However, the Gunners held on to move back to within two points of leaders Leicester and four ahead of third-placed City.
