Rio Ferdinand: This is what Man United need in January transfer window
Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United are in need of attacking reinforcements next month
Rio Ferdinand believes that Manchester United must splash the cash on a proven goal-scorer in the January transfer window to save their season.
The Red Devils’ winless run extended to eight games as they were held to a goalless draw by Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Louis van Gaal has found himself under intense pressure as manager in recent weeks following United’s miserable run of form.
His side have been dumped out of the Champions League and have slipped out of the top four in the Premier League.
With the January transfer window now looming large, many are expecting the Red Devils to bring in reinforcements in the new year.
And former United defender Ferdinand is keen to see them bring in some attacking talent.
Asked what Manchester United need in the January transfer window, Ferdinand told BT Sport: “Someone who’s going to get goals, and someone who’s actually going to get the ball in the final third and take people on; commit people, bring people to him so he creates enough space for other people. That’s what we haven’t got.
“Martial did that today [against Chelsea]. That’s the first time I’ve seen that for a while.”
