Robert Pires is backing Arsenal to end their long wait for the Premier League title this season
Robert Pires believes that Arsenal are on course to end their long wait for the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners have been touted by many as genuine title contenders this term, with Arsene Wenger’s men currently in second place in the table and just two points behind surprise leaders Leicester City as the hectic festive period looms large.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League since their unbeaten triumph back in 2004, when Pires was still playing for the north London side.
Wenger’s side lock horns with fellow title rivals Manchester City at Emirates Stadium on Monday night in a crunch Premier League clash in north London.
And the former France midfielder feels that this season represents one of the best chances for Arsenal to win the title form many years.
Pires is quoted as saying by Goal: “When you look at the table, we [Arsenal] are in a good position.
“Anything is possible this season because Arsenal have played well this season and are doing well.
“Next Monday they have a big, big game when they host Manchester City. But Arsenal, yeah, they can win the title at the end of this season because; they have a very good team, and very good spirit.
“They have good technique… Unfortunately we have a lot of players injured, but I think it’s not a problem because the squad is very big. I hope, and I wish, that Arsenal win the title.”
Arsenal were 2-0 winners over Aston Villa at Villa Park last weekend.
