Schweinsteiger issues Man United rallying cry ahead of Wolfsburg showdown
Bastian Schweinsteiger says he is looking forward to Manchester United's clash with Wolfsburg on Tuesday
Bastian Schweinsteiger insists that Manchester United have what it takes to beat Wolfsburg in Germany and progress to the knockout phase of the Champions League.
Louis van Gaal’s men must claim victory over the Bundesliga side to guarantee their qualification for the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
United have been struggling in front of goal in recent weeks and were held to a goalless draw by West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils had 21 shots at goal against the Hammers but were unable to make the breakthrough as they dropped down into fourth place in the Premier League.
However, Germany international Schweinsteiger is confident that United will be able to do what is necessary to progress on Tuesday night.
Schweinsteiger told United’s website: “The motivation is there for Tuesday.
“It is a very important match for us and I know how difficult it is at Wolfsburg. They have won a lot of matches at home. It is not easy. We have to find the right tactic and I am sure the team will be ready for the big night.
“I remember we [Bayern] lost there once when Wolfsburg won 5-1, the year they won the Bundesliga. But we also won there 6-1. It is a mix of memories but they are very strong.
“I am looking forward to it. They will come at us more as they are at home. Maybe that will be better for us.”
United are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Leicester City after 15 games of the season.
