Sol Campbell believes that Arsenal have fired a warning shot at their Premier League title rivals with their impressive 2-1 win over Manchester City on Monday night.
The Gunners moved back to within two points of Premier League leaders Leicester City with the win as they underlined their status as genuine contenders for this season’s top-flight title.
Arsenal have won the FA Cup for the last two seasons but have failed to win the Premier League since their unbeaten triumph back in the 2003-04 campaign.
However, Campbell has been thoroughly impressed by what he has seen from the north London side so far this season and is backing them to sustain a title challenge.
Campbell told Sportlobster: “The victory over City was a warning shot to the rest of the Premier League. If anyone had any doubts about Arsenal’s mental strength against quality opposition then they surely answered them.
“There’s a long way to go this season but the confidence last night’s game will have given to Arsene’s troops is invaluable. It should give them the belief they can go on and win the title.
“This is a side with a few injuries and the healthy competition the likes of Wilshere, Cazorla, Welbeck and Coquelin can give when they’re back should drive this squad on.”
Arsenal, who finished third last season, take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Boxing Day, before hosting Bournemouth at The Emirates on Monday 28 December.
The north London side have been drawn to face Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League next year.
