Steve McClaren believes Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side can win the Premier League title
Steve McClaren believes Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side are Premier League title contenders this season.
The Reds have won their last two Premier League games after victories over leaders Manchester City and Garry Monk’s Swansea City.
Liverpool impressed with a 6-1 win against Southampton in the League Cup at St Mary’s on Wednesday night as the Reds set up a semi-final clash against Stoke City.
The Merseyside outfit have scored an incredible 13 times in their last four games in all competitions.
And Newcastle manager McClaren, whose side host Liverpool at St James’s Park on Sunday afternoon, believes the Reds’s impressive form makes them genuine title contenders.
“They are title contenders, in terms of the form they are in and the way they are going,” McClaren told BBC Sport.
McClaren added: “What Dortmund had, I can see that in the Liverpool team.
“It’s coming and they demonstrated on Wednesday [in beating Southampton 6-1] what they are capable of doing.
“They have got good quality players who work very hard. He is doing a great job.”
Liverpool make the trip to McClaren’s struggling Newcastle United side in the Premier League on Sunday as the Reds looks to make amends for last season’s 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park.
