Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has framed Chelsea boss’ letter
Steven Gerrard reveals how he has framed a letter written to him by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho after his Liverpool exit
Steven Gerrard has revealed that he has framed a letter written to him by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho following the midfielder’s Liverpool exit in the summer.
Gerrard called time on his decorated Anfield career at the end of last season as he opted to leave Merseyside to join MLS outfit LA Galaxy.
Chelsea boss Mourinho tried to bring Gerrard to Stamford Bridge during his first spell in charge at the club but a move to west London failed to materialise.
The Portuguese coach underlined his respect for the midfielder by admitting in a personally-written letter that he regrets not having been able to work with the Liverpool legend.
Now, Gerrard has revealed that he has framed the letter, which was delivered to him by Chelsea captain John Terry, and displays it in his house as he spoke of his respect for Mourinho during an interview on the Clare Balding Show.
Speaking on BT Sport alongside Mourinho, the former Liverpool captain said: “The letter is now in a frame, pride of place in the house. That’s what it means to me.
“It was a nice touch which shows what he gives to players off the pitch and even players that have been a rival…he’s still humble and a gentleman to write me a letter.”
