Steven Gerrard believes that Manchester United need to sign an experienced striker during the January transfer window to save their season.
The Red Devils have come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks following their miserable run of eight games without a win.
United did show signs of improvement as they played out a goalless draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday night to ease some of the pressure on manager Louis van Gaal.
However, with the January transfer window fast approaching, many United fans will be keen to see if the Dutchman opts to bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the season.
Former Liverpool midfielder Gerrard feels that United are lacking quality in attack and has urged Van Gaal to splash the cash on a new forward.
Speaking on BT Sport after Monday’s draw with Chelsea, Gerrard said: “Manchester United still need something. I think they need an extra striker because there’s too much pressure on Wayne Rooney.
“[Anthony] Martial is very young, [Memphis] Depay is very young… I think they need an experienced striker to come and help Wayne Rooney with the pressure of [getting] the goals.”
