Steven Gerrard: Why Jose Mourinho will revive Chelsea’s season

Steven Gerrard is confident Jose Mourinho will get Chelsea back on track in the Premier League

Steven Gerrard has backed Jose Mourinho to revive Chelsea’s season ahead of their clash against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

The defending Premier League champions are in 14th place and 14 points behind current pace-setters Manchester City and Leicester City after a disappointing start to the defence of their title.

Chelsea have already lost a staggering seven games in the Premier League this season, including a humiliating 3-1 loss to Gerrard’s former employers Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The LA Galaxy midfielder, who came close to joining Mourinho’s Chelsea during his first reign at the west London club, is confident the 52-year-old will get Chelsea back on track.

“At the moment, they’re not in a good position,” Gerrard told RTE Radio.

“But because he is such a good manager and all the tools are there in the dressing room, it won’t be too long before he recovers that situation.”

Chelsea are looking to make a return to winning ways on Saturday after a 1-1 stalemate with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
